Of Babies and Dreams…

I went to dine at McDonald’s last night together with my friend, J, before heading to a nearby Internet café. We were almost done with our food when two men and a lady walked in with a baby stroller in tow.  They chose a table about ten feet away from us.  J immediately recognized them since they belong to the same neighborhood.  As J was giving out a little info on the lady and her baby, I just can’t keep myself from looking at the stroller where the baby snugly lies.  We can tell he was securely strapped in his stroller as we can only sense how he kept on struggling as if wanting to get out in order to be in his mother’s arms.  As if hearing our conversation about him, the little kid suddenly forced himself up and turned his head towards our direction.  Furthermore, as if on cue, he flashed to us his most radiant smile…a toothless grin that was seemingly so sweet and full of innocence!  Boy!  What I saw was not just a handsome, bedimpled, young toddler’s face but a totally simple yet refreshing smile from a one-year old kid.  We adults just can’t help but smile back at him.  Just recalling now how he even pulled his look away from us makes me smile even more for as he did so, he made it directly known to us that he was really amused at what he was actually doing.  Shying away from us, he pushed his head back to his stroller as if trying to conceal his blushing cheeks then slowly bobbed his head up once again…only to flash to us once more, the same sweet smile that could really draw so much attention from any one who would witness his childish antics.  He really knew how to fully catch our attention as he did the said gesture thrice.  Whew!  It really made my night so light!

Just don’t know how to explain it but this instance must have made so much impact on my subconscious that I found myself in a middle of a dream just way before I wake up early this morning.  In my dream, I saw myself dressing up a young little girl whose age was about the same as the kid I chanced upon last night.  She’s a healthy young child having dark round eyes.  I can no longer recall how she really looks but all I know is that she was a beautiful child.  Oh how I wish it was not just a dream at all.  How I really wish that she were truly mine! J

Hey, I’m not really sure but people say that dreams are but mere projections or reflections of one’s innermost wishes and desires.  Could it be my longing to have my own little child or could it be the child in me that was triggered, which is still longing to be taken into someone else’s arms?  Oh well, it just keeps me thinking moreover…Could it be God trying to converse with me through the eyes and smiles of a little child?  Of babies and dreams, one truly cannot fathom God’s simple wonders…
